Mixed ability V setting by ability— which is best.
This give opportunies to research by interviewing teachers and looking at book based evidence.
Or something on the role of teaching assistants. Or the value of schools INSET. Plenty of opportunities to interview teachers and INSET providers on this one or contrast school management opinions with those of teachers. ( teachers generally hate INSET, school managers are more enthusiastic )
Methods to use on children with ADHD or autism other than just putting them on medication. There are tons of kids with these problems.
The use of the Internet for answering research problems.
The effect of technology on improving students’ literacy. (Technology could be ipods, threaded discussion boards, smartboards - whatever technology you have access to).
The effect of student choice on motivation and/or achievement. (student choice of: instruction (kinesthetic, audio or visual; curriculum - which novel or text; response (oral, written, visual).
The old PTAs sort of faded out of the news - maybe they had fist fights, but do parents say ‘oh what a good job the teachers are doing’ or ‘those bloody teachers!’
