How do i create and register my own charity in Scotland?
I have several projects in Sri Lanka which i wish to fundraise for I would like to no if it is possible to create my own charity to which bodies can make donations?

You probably can create your own charity and there are different ways of going about it. Just like in business where there are sole traders, partneships, limited companies etc, so too are there different models upon which a charity is based. On a small scale it’s fairly easy but if things takle off you’ll need to form management committees, perhaps become limited by guarantee, have a constitution, hold AGM’s, produce accounts etc etc.
Not knowing what you have in mind makes it difficult to advise and in any event it’s probably best to seek professional advice. Many solicitors and accountants can assist with the formation of a charity and they should know the best way to go about it for your circumstances.
Every Scottish charity has to be registered with the OSCR (the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator). They decide if an organisation can be a charity or not and are reposnible for regulation and compliance. More info here… http://www.oscr.org.uk/
