It seems their staff are just making the decisions they want and the public and charities are being conned
The idea should be really good but its being abused.

I believe I should start donating a significant chunk of money to people who need it a lot worse than I do. But, I would hate the idea of giving away money to be wasted, or used to line the pockets of useless people.

Does anyone know of any good charities, or better yet, of a good method for sorting out the good charities from the bad ones?

Hi. Have tried letters in the press without much success. New UK registered charity is desperate for volunteers so it can pursue its objectives. Do you have experience of recruiting volunteers? If so, how did you find them, and do you have any good ideas for how a charity can appeal for volunteers without needing to spend too much money? Things like posters in local shops won’t really work as we cover the whole UK. Thank you very much.

How does having one (a conscience) help anyone’s cause?

People who monopolise on your good will and giving nature, maybe?
And not so much the real issues but it looks like they are doing something and your conscience can now feel clear even though this is part of the problem.

I have noticed a rise in charities and adverts that look very sad and anyone would go soft to see the awful conditions humans and pets suffer.

Why not explore the core reasons for the state of affairs and asking more crucial questions why such affairs are thriving?
And not improving?
Despite everyone apparently being so giving with there millions upon millions raised each year for Red Nose Day as an example.

When prevention would be the best cure.

It seems so much interfering from do-gooders merely serves to breed charity management schemes.

Before anyone accuses me of being selfish I have done plenty of voluntary help to O.A.P’s and The Autistic Society.
I have given loads of perfectly good stuff to Brit ‘Heart Foundation, Oxfam, Age Concern, Children’s Hospice etc… as you all most likely have.

All these charities receive public funds from the government too.

Whoever I needed some N.H.S assistance for a problem they could have easily given me help with but NO HELP whatever-so only hindrance.

I’m doing some research and I’d like to get hold of examples of real letters that charities send through the post. I’ve been on various websites but can’t seem to find what I’m looking for…any ideas?

There’s so many flimflam charities where the executives live the highlife and still call their organizations "nonprofit", they throw fancy charity balls with fancy dinners and dancing and I think 0.1 pennies out of a dollar trickles through to the needy.

A for profit company claims to be giving proceeds to charity, but I can’t find the information on the charities 990. I can’t find a foundation for the company on the foundation center website. I want to find out if this is legitimate or schemish. The charity seems to be supporting the claim (atleast one of them does), but something doesn’t seem right.

Which payee takes precedence?
Can charities be made to wait until an asset is sold before being paid out?

I want to donate money to an international aid and relief charity. Are international aid and relief charities making a positive difference in the world?

I used to work with a colleague who collected the plastic tops from milk bottles on behalf of a charity. He left about a year ago so now I’ve got a years worth of milk bottle tops and don’t know what to do with them.

Laci Green will be hosting a 24 hour charity drive starting at noon on BlogTV June 26th. Previously, the planned charity was the Bill Gates Educational Foundation. However, today she found out the grantees that they are sponsoring right now are all private schools. We feel our contributions could be going to better causes.

So, I am asking the Yahoo Answers community, do you have any suggestions for charities? The standards I would like it to fulfill to be selected are:

-Goes toward a HEALTH/SCIENCE or EDUCATIONAL cause. (educational preferred!)
-History of progress
-Good financials…this means they donate 95%+ of the money we give them to the cause, and they aren’t in debt.

Every charity suggested will be investigated until we find a good one :]

Last week my colleagues and I each pitched in some money to play the lottery. we were asking each other whatwe’d do with the money if we won. I said I’d keep a fourth for myself and use the other 3/4s to start 3 charities. Although I didn’t win the lottery I kinda still want to start the 3 charities. One is a scholarship, the other is a research fund, the other is a pediatric charity. The problem is I need million to start each charity. I was going to put the money in a high yield savings account or buy bonds and whatever interest is received will be the money that goes to the cause. that way I can still give even after I’m long dead. Since no one is going to write such a huge check without proof how do you start a charity? I know there’s some registration you have to do to make it tax exemptable. what do I have to do?

I have been wanting a mohawk for a while now, and I figured, if I’m gonna get one, why not get money out of it? It would be selfish and stupid of me to keep the money, so I want to donate it to a charity.

I saw an Oprah show about how there are many people whose insurance won’t cover or pay for life-saving operations. This gave me an idea to raise money for these people. The problem is, however, I don’t know if there’s any charities I could donate to in order to do this. Does anyone know of any?

I have tried to think of everything, but whatever search engine i use or keywords, this choice does not come up. There doesn’t seem to be a ‘link to us’ section on any charity site.
All i have found so far is a website that offers a form for your site where people can search for charities and it is so badly coded, it doesn’t work properly and you can tell they were thinking of profit not charity.

I’m really into charity work and I want to start a club linked to a charity. Some charities allow student involvement and encourage students to create clubs and find creative ways to raise money for the chairty (eg. Invisible Children) My school already raises money towards Invisible Children and it has been successful.

We are presently in the process of registering a charity which will assist sexually discriminated communities in countries where homosexuality is illegal or repressed and to place pressure onthese countries to adopt more advanced healthcare initiatives and provide comprehensive awareness to these communities on the risks of HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis and other STDs through liaison and affiliation with existing advocacy groups and other relevant international bodies.

We would like to know where to find free or discounted hosting for charities and non profits.

For my online shop, I would like to donate a percentage of my profits to different charities. So far I have decided on the World Wildlife Fund, and the Amreican Cancer Society. Are there any other charities that you would suggest for me to add to the list?

So I’m doing A-Level French and we get to go on work expereince with this organisation called Halsbury, and they seem brilliant but I need funding. The Jack Petchy foundation is currently closed and another one called ‘Leoando’ something doesn’t offer individual funding either. I just wanted to know for those who live in the UK particualry London do you know of any organisation/charities/foundations that help individuals from a low income home so that I could get funding. I need £299. PLEASE HELP I’M DESPERATE AND POOR!!!

What did you do to get money, who did you go to? because my school isn’t help because so many rich people go there and they don’t know of my circumstances and even if they did I don’t think they would help, coz i’ve asked and have had no good information back.
