got a violent 18 yr old son i need advice. he’s doing phenomenally well at college and starting a foundation at uni this sept. i have mentored him given him direction and supported him as a single self employed mother. however lately he randomly kicks off big time. Screams at me. insults me. thumps me, throws things violently against the wall. threw a fork hardcore out of a door way tday of which i was literally right round the corner of. thank God i didn’t go through the door way and get it in my face. he will kick off for minor reasons. He blames me for his abusive behavior, a classic sign of an Abuser. he’s exemplary to other people outside the house but indoors he’s a total git to me on random occasions. He finds fault with all i do and all i dont do. in his teenage opinion he’s got more potential than me, has better friends, more friends, and better contacts. I cannot live with his scary random behavior wondering when will he kick off next and what things will he trash and throw around the house and will i get hurt during his rage. He said he cant afford accommodation until one year’s time and when he starts a BA at uni and gets a grant. He said the foundation is 5 days a week and cant work and he will have no money for rent. Does anyone know if he is eligible for any assistance re rent and living expenses asa student? I cant take his manic abusive behavior anymore. he refuses to go live with his father. i cant see a way out of this because i cannot discuss the issue rationally with my son, he seems to go into bizarre Rage Mode and cant rationalize. he says you did so-and-so…. ‘you made me do it’. If i say to him how can u be so nasty to your own mother he just screams more. It’s a complete headfck situation. I know that today will not be the last random rage he will orchestrate. we live in a tiny flat and its a nitemare. I’m worried that this may escalate and i will get hurt.

Can a religious charity lend money to its congregations and charge interest on this loan? If so would this disqualify their status or require taxes paid on the profit?

I am really struggling for money at the moment, so need to REALLY limit the amount that i spend.
What do you think about buying SOME clothes for me and my kids from charity shops?Do you think its skanky, or ok?
The same goes for own brand food from supermarkets?

I want to donate money to an international aid and relief charity. Are international aid and relief charities making a positive difference in the world?

Laci Green will be hosting a 24 hour charity drive starting at noon on BlogTV June 26th. Previously, the planned charity was the Bill Gates Educational Foundation. However, today she found out the grantees that they are sponsoring right now are all private schools. We feel our contributions could be going to better causes.

So, I am asking the Yahoo Answers community, do you have any suggestions for charities? The standards I would like it to fulfill to be selected are:

-Goes toward a HEALTH/SCIENCE or EDUCATIONAL cause. (educational preferred!)
-History of progress
-Good financials…this means they donate 95%+ of the money we give them to the cause, and they aren’t in debt.

Every charity suggested will be investigated until we find a good one :]

thanks!

Last week my colleagues and I each pitched in some money to play the lottery. we were asking each other whatwe’d do with the money if we won. I said I’d keep a fourth for myself and use the other 3/4s to start 3 charities. Although I didn’t win the lottery I kinda still want to start the 3 charities. One is a scholarship, the other is a research fund, the other is a pediatric charity. The problem is I need million to start each charity. I was going to put the money in a high yield savings account or buy bonds and whatever interest is received will be the money that goes to the cause. that way I can still give even after I’m long dead. Since no one is going to write such a huge check without proof how do you start a charity? I know there’s some registration you have to do to make it tax exemptable. what do I have to do?

We are holding a raffle to raise money for our pre-school and need prizes. Can anyone suggest companies that donate to charity?

I have been wanting a mohawk for a while now, and I figured, if I’m gonna get one, why not get money out of it? It would be selfish and stupid of me to keep the money, so I want to donate it to a charity.

I am HUGE about the arts of any kind. I’d like to know all the charities that I can donate the profit to.

I am going to run the Manchester Great North Run again this year, and want to raise money for a children’s charity. Preferably one that helps vulnerable children in the manchester area. However when i search online all i get is the large charity’s that want minimum donations etc. I just want to be able to raise as much as possible for a charity that hardly get any funding..

I was thinking of donating some money to the local community. What charities would help out the most. I was thinking of donating to a food bank, but do you guys have any other ideas?

I saw an Oprah show about how there are many people whose insurance won’t cover or pay for life-saving operations. This gave me an idea to raise money for these people. The problem is, however, I don’t know if there’s any charities I could donate to in order to do this. Does anyone know of any?

basically im writing up a project on Bill Gates and Microsoft, and part of it is on Criticisms of The charity he founded.
the sentence that i want to correct is about the fact that the charity gives money to ethnic minorities, ( egsomething like 1m to the United Negro College fund) but it doesnt give any to white/american people. how can i phrase that in a "politically correct" way without being patronising?
and im fairly sure its true as its on Wikipedia
and yes i am aware that im putting in a small sentence about a relatively small amount that goes to americans but it is quite controversial that so little goes to causicans dont you think?

Like one for cancer with kids, a sub-branch of like childrens miracle network or something. And eventually become a charity of its own? Would that work? Like partnering up for a while and do funds and stuff for the bigger company until the charity can make it on its own…thanks
Sort of like, if you have facebook, you can make a ’cause’ page thing and people can donate money that goes to either you or a bigger charity that the cause is supporting, could I make something like that but official?

I am helping a catholic young adult ministry which focus on helping young adult at Southeast Asia to have a better life. Annually they send money to fund shelter at Southeast Asia. The shelter itself is free for religious orientation and available for every less fortunate people. I am thinking to connect them with the private foundation that can support their project.

Earlier tonight, another parent who raised three kids told me it is a good idea to provide as best an education as possible for pre-school and kindergarten (i.e., try to afford the expensive schools) in order to create a solid foundation for future learning. Afterwards, public versus private schools are less of an issue because the child would be more likely to flourish either way.

Previously, I had asked a similar question regarding whether it is already important to consider options education-wise for a 2-year old. The most profound answer was at this age to invest my time; and, save the money for later. But, now, I’m wondering whether this either conflicts or adds to my parenting role.

Please tell me
a) The name of the charity
b) What you know of where the money goes
Thank you
So far, some very interesting answers, thank you

I’d like to start donating money to a charity that focuses on Africa or the Middle East but want to make sure that the money I donate is accounted for and goes directly to the family. My friend in Denmark contributes to a charity where the sponsor child and family writes to tell you what the money was spent on. Does something like this exist in the US, and is it credible? Thanks

I want to create a public foundation that will raise money to sponsor other programs abroad. I want to just give out grants to other registered charities and not have to have any other relations with the other charities. is this possible?

We lost our 4 year old son to leukemia earlier this year. We donated some of his toys to the hospital he was treated, my kids decided this would be a good thing to do and help other kids in the situation and we came to the decision as a family. We now would like to do something to raise money for the hospitals charity foundation, after everything they did for him we think it’s the least we can do. Any ideas how we can raise money? Thankyou xo

I know that I can split the cost of aircraft rental, fuel costs, etc with other people i am flying. But how does flying for charity work. I don’t think I can make money by flying for charity. Is it possible for the organization to pay for all of the plane rental and fuel costs?

Also I will be getting my private pilots license soon, and do any of you know any charitable organizations that I can fly for to gain hours without spending all of my money. Specifically around southwestern Connecticut and new york city. Thanks

Last year I found a website for a charity that basically "purchased" mosquito nets, water, blankets, etc with the donations. So, you knew exactly what the charity could get with the money. I didn’t have the money last year, but I do this year and would like to donate in my family’s name for Christmas presents. Basically, saying each member bought a mosquito net for a needy family or something like that. Where can I find a charity that does something like this??

I was just curious about who’s been the youngest to receive money from the genius grant, if anyone knows.
