What is the importance and the significance of Charity in the society?
I am going to have a public Speaking on "Charity". I am going to write sth about the importance of Charity. So, what is the signficance and importance of Charity in the HK society? How does it help, the development of a city?

charity is often an act of vanity to my mind. in other words it has more to do with the giver than the receiver. in very many cases, charity is informed by guilt. charity is also often superficial - a ‘drop in the ocean’ toward some non-specific end. however, charity defined as ‘ the impartial love of other people’ is possibly a better, if rarer, form. i believe that charity in terms of ‘impartial love’ should first be applied to self. in this way, a compassionate, healthy person is a blessing in the societal context. i think a lot of ‘charitable people’ forget about analysing the causes of another’s poverty, hardship or desperation. they are willing to apply a band-aid (and feel rightous for doing so), but to attempt to fix the problem such as cultural disenfranchisement / poverty /racism etc., is not something that they want to get involved in (becasue it is too hard / won’t make them popular / is thankless / is invisible). looking beyond charity can upset the status quo and so i think charity can often allow shitty governments / policies / rules and norms to stay put and remain strong even if there operation is essentially harmful. i think charity is also a way for society, and society’s decision-makers, to avoid taking responsibility for shortfalls in their thinking / feeling and action.

A group of givers can feel good together.
Togetherness is an important to promote social cohesiveness.
Its tough luck on the recipient who is drip-fed enough to survive but never enough to help themselves.
Hopefully there are more givers than receivers, but of course the whole charade breaks down when everyone is a receiver as in disaster areas.
As a receiver of charity I can tell you that it feels really bad!
